How is tamar like ruth and rahab
He chose me; He chose you. He can take all your mess and create a miracle that will change history, as he did in the lives of Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and Mary. I Can start liliving my life the way God created it to be. May Elohim Adonai barukh you. I enjoyed reading about the women of the bible… I am in the process of ministering to a friend about imperfect people that God used. God is not looking for perfect people just willing vessels.
I pray you stay encouraged!! The only problem is, the black race is not Israel. Adam was the father of the white race. Adam literally means, to blush, to be ruddy, to show blood in the face red.
Blacks do not blush and they are not ruddy. It has nothing to do with the black race or any other race. The Bible calls the black race the beast of the field or brute beast. I feel the need to reply to isaiah because of the exclusionary nature of the comment.
Kudos to beyouforapurpose for you polite reply! There is no way Israel is Anglo-Saxon etc. Israel began in the middle east. They are more arabic than anything. A-dam mean red and it is a play on words, because God made him from the red clay of the ground. It does not mean to blush. Jesus Christ died for ALL. He is the point- not black or white. Praise God, God looks on the heart, not our color.
Isaiah , your comments are wrong on so many levels. Beyouforapurpose, your insights are spot on. I just found this msg and I truly appreciate such explanation in it, I am most grateful to u for sharing that others like myself can benefit from it with clear understanding, thanks again and may the good Lord continue to bless u.
However, do you know what is missing from the genealogy of Adam to Noah? Though that lineage repeatedly mentions these men had sons and daughters, not one mother is mentioned. Not even Eve, the mother of all living. Judah was the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar. Salmon was the father of Boaz by Rahab. Boaz was the father of Obed by Ruth.
David was the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah. The stories of these particular women are varied and colorful. Rahab was a Canaanite prostitute. In other words, Jesus is not only the Son of God. He is not only the Son of Man. He is not only the Son of David. He is not only the Son of Abraham. He is also the Son of Gentiles. Tamar, Rahab, and Ruth are all Gentiles. He is simply the King. He is the King of the nations. Apparently she was not Jewish, for she was not a descendant of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Nonetheless, what stands out most about her life is her character, not her lineage. Tamar was left childless. Judah then commanded his second son, Onan, to marry Tamar and have children on behalf of Er.
This was commonly referred to as a levirate marriage Dt. The child would then be considered the son of the deceased brother, thus ensuring a continuation of the family line. Onan obeyed his father—partially. He married Tamar; but because he knew the child would not be his, he took precautions to guarantee she would not conceive. The Hebrew text indicates that he did so repeatedly.
Judah now had lost two sons. Fearing he might lose a third, he told Tamar to remain a widow and wait until Shelah grew up, at which time Shelah would take her as a wife. Tamar obeyed. The Bible does not say how many years she waited; but after a considerable time, Shelah grew up.
It became apparent to Tamar that her father-in-law had no intention of marrying him to her. At that point, Tamar faced an ethical dilemma. Should she acquiesce to the moral degeneracy evidenced by Er, Onan, and Judah and just forget the whole thing—perhaps even marry into a completely different family?
She chose the latter. Having heard that Judah had become a widower, she deceived him into believing she was a prostitute. Not recognizing her, Judah requested her services and paid her with his signet ring, bracelets, and staff These were symbols of authority and marks of identification. He gave her these as a deposit, intending to pay her with a goat later. But when Judah sent a Canaanite friend back with the goat and instructions to retrieve his belongings, the woman could not be found.
In fact, nobody had even heard of her. Three months later, Judah learned Tamar was pregnant. Since she was a widow and unmarried, everyone assumed she had acted immorally.
But when Tamar arrived, Judah had a surprise waiting for him. Judah was caught red-handed. Like David, Judah had been quick to pronounce judgment on someone else until he was confronted with his own sin. Judah released Tamar and did not have relations with her again. For her righteous stand, God blessed her and gave her not one son, but twin sons—Perez and Zerah.
