Because ionizing radiation is not an exotic carcinogen and mutagen which exposes a small segment of the population. Low-dose ionizing radiation is received from natural background sources, numerous medical procedures, nuclear pollution, flying, and sometimes from occupational exposures.

How many other proven human carcinogens can you name to which everyone is exposed on a daily and lifelong basis? The evidence that there is no safe dose-level of ionizing radiation no threshold dose means that journals and other media contribute to cancer and inherited afflictions whenever they include disproven claims which encourage a casual attitude toward extra exposures to low-dose ionizing radiation. We believe that you want to help prevent such miseries.

Assertions in this communication are supported in detail, and with very specific sourcing, in Gofman Chapters 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 , 32, Cancers require the presence of damaged genetic molecules in the single cells which turn malignant.

Likewise, inherited afflictions require the presence of damaged genetic molecules in the single cell from which a baby develops. The genetic molecules in a human cell-nucleus are the 46 human chromosomes, each consisting of one double-strand DNA helix plus associated proteins. After damage occurs to a genetic molecule, the cell attempts to repair it. If the cell achieves perfect repair, the genetic molecule regains its "mint quality" as if no damage had ever occurred.

The menace to health involves the genetic damage which is un repaired, un repairable, or mis repaired. The " troublesome trio. When the damage is complex for example, when the opposite strands of the double helix have been broken pieces of the DNA double-helix sometimes end up in the wrong place, or become permanently lost.

These failures of repair are not in dispute. By contrast, the cell is exquisitely efficient at repairing injury to single strands of the double helix. It has been estimated that, every day, each cell copes with at least 10, DNA injuries induced by routine chemical sources including free radicals produced by the cell itself. Such standard repairs might be compared to replacing a lamp's broken light bulb with a new bulb.

After "repair," the lamp works perfectly again. Ionizing radiation has demonstrated beyond any doubt its ability to break both strands of the DNA double helix at the same time. This ability has made it "famous" among toxic agents as a chromosome-breaker. If only one DNA strand breaks, the other strand holds the chromosome together. Countless experiments have been done on cells to measure the speed with which they repair radiation-induced DNA damage, both single-strand and double-strand injuries.

Even after extremely high radiation doses, that repair which does occur is complete within about 8 hours, and most of it is complete within about 2 hours. An "extremely high radiation dose" can be understood by comparison with the annual dose which everyone receives from natural sources.

Excluding radon, the natural dose per year is about 0. Therefore a common experimental dose to cells of rads, delivered in an instant "acute" dose-delivery , is about 1, times higher than the total annual natural dose.

And yet experiments show that human cells mobilize enough repair capacity repair enzymes to cope with rads all at once. Indeed, repair capacity seems not overwhelmed even at doses of rads and more. The explanation for residual, post-repair damage is not a lack of repair-capacity or time, but rather an inherent inability of the repair-system to fix certain complex injuries to genetic molecules.

A radiation-induced chromosome abnormality does not always kill the cell in which it persists, nor does it always prevent the cell from dividing.

When the injured cell divides, the same injury is replicated in the new cells. In the A-bomb survivors, extra chromosome abnormalities have been observed even 40 years after the bombings.

Their radiation-causation is indicated by the positive dose-response: The higher the bomb-dose, the higher the frequency of abnormalities Kodama Residual unrepaired and misrepaired chromosome damage in human blood samples, irradiated in lab dishes in vitro , is visually detectable at acute radiation doses as low as 2 rads, despite crude methods of observation Lloyd Moreover, the residual genetic damage which can not be detected with such methods may swamp the amount detected.

Does residual damage also exist, after repair-time, if low doses are received slowly by living humans in vivo? For example, extra chromosome damage has been observed among Alaskan natives from nuclear fallout, in spite of very gradual accumulation of about 0.

If residual genetic damage has been observed even from low radiation doses at slow dose-rates para. L, above , how can anyone still claim that evidence of harm at low doses is "just hypothetical," or that harm requires high doses? Here's how. If challenged, they say: 1 Since a connection is just hypothetical between real-world health effects and misrepaired or unrepaired genetic injury from radiation , the evidence of harm to health from low-dose radiation is just hypothetical; and 2 Since there are radiation doses lower than occupational doses, and lower than fallout doses, and lower than any doses we can ever afford to study, the harm at these lower doses will always remain unproven.

They suggest that maybe, at some extremely low dose or dose-rate, "repair" becomes perfect. We recognized a method which could cope with both difficulties. Beginning with Gofman pp.

In Gofman , we developed the method and the evidence in detail. Full presentation takes 70 pages not suitable for a journal. We wanted to know if the threshold issue, for ionizing radiation, could be settled.

Our analysis proves, by any reasonable standard of scientific proof, that there is no safe dose or dose-rate of ionizing radiation. We have found no refutation of our proof. For readers to understand how our method overcomes the obstacles described above para. Ionizing radiation includes beta particles, alpha particles, gamma rays, and x-rays; the term excludes radio, microwave, infra-red, and visible radiations.

Beta particles are electrons but they differ from the ordinary non-beta electrons in the human body in one important way. Beta particles are endowed with biologically unnatural energy. This energy causes them to travel through the cell and beyond at high speed, like tiny bullets. Many radioactive atoms called radio-nuclides, radio-isotopes decay into stable atoms by spitting out beta particles or alpha particles, which are much larger. Radio-nuclides often emit gamma rays too, in the process of decaying into stable nuclides.

Gamma rays are photons a sort of light having too much energy for humans to see. X-rays are like gamma rays, except x-rays have less energy per photon. Both are generated by "nature" and by man-made generators. The photons of x-rays and gamma rays do their damage to cells by knocking electrons out of ordinary molecules and causing them to become beta particles which travel through the cell and beyond with biologically unnatural energy.

There are about million typical cells in 1 cubic centimeter. The biological damage caused by ionizing radiation, including gamma rays and x-rays, is due to high-speed particles traveling through cells and unloading concentrated amounts of energy in unnatural places at random.

Each particle creates a very narrow path of disturbance called a primary "ionization track" as it unloads energy at irregular intervals. Alpha particles don't travel far; they unload their energy within just a few cells. Since virtually no one claims any threshold dose safe dose for alpha irradiation, our work involves high-speed electrons para. The amount of energy transferred in an instant, from the high-speed electron to nearby molecules, is often many times larger than the single energy-transfers which occur "anyway" in normal cell chemistry and metabolism.

This unique feature of ionizing radiation probably explains why ionizing radiation is so "good" at breaking chromosomes and inflicting other complex injuries on the genetic molecules. Every track acting without help from any other track has a chance of causing an unrepairable carcinogenic injury in a cell. At high radiation doses, many tracks from high-speed electrons pass through every cell-nucleus. We focus on the nucleus because that is where the human's genetic molecules are located.

How many tracks? Download this data Event. We have switched off comments on this old version of the site. To comment on crosswords, please switch over to the new version to comment. By Living Sober July 19, SPICE has been a thorn in my side for the last year. I often referred to SPICE as a drug rehab killer, because it was undetectable in urine tests, was cheap, and could legally be bought at head shops.

Although there are several states including California that have legalized the recreational use of marijuana , the idea that JWH can provide the same heightened effects may be too tempting to unknowing users.

This is because the GABA neurotransmissions are more effective, which can cause extreme anxiety, convulsions, and seizures. Generally, individuals who have become hooked on illegal substances have one common goal: to mask out their problems and live in a world that could free their minds from the pain and anger that they feel. Teens and adults may different reasons with regard to taking illegal substances.

Most often, teens become hooked on drugs because they want to feel the sense of belongingness and acceptance. Since adolescence is a stage where teens may feel that they want to feel and be treated like adults, they tend to do things that they see from adults without realizing its consequences.

Taking drugs makes some teenagers feel tougher in facing daily struggles. Moreover, peer pressure can be another reason that ignites their will to take the substance. Adults, on the other hand, generally take illegal substances as their way of relaxation, most especially after coming from a long day at work.

However, taking the substance too often may lead to dependence. Unknowingly, some of the users could no longer find their way out of the habit, to a point that most of them either end up in a medical facility or meet their untimely death due to overdose. As for JWH, it has become the emerging drug of choice to replace marijuana. The urge to switch from marijuana to this synthetic cannabinoid is not just to outsmart authorities from detecting the use of an illegal substance, but also because of more heightened effects that JWH can provide.

However, the impact of using JWH may vary between individuals. Nevertheless, users may undergo a much more profound experience, particularly in newbies. JWH mimics the mechanism of tetrahydrocannabinol THC , the active compound that is found in marijuana. It has the ability to affect brain functioning, which may result to central nervous system CNS depression. When it binds to cannabinoid receptor type 1 CB1 found in the brain, JWH may cause alterations in the control of emotions, judgment, memory, motivation, and learning.

Below are some of the psychological effects that a user may experience when taking mg of JWH It is believed that using this synthetic cannabinoid can also render some positive effects such as analgesia and anti-anxiety. However, these claims are yet to be backed up due to insufficient evidence from scientific research. Therefore, any medical application of this substance is still not recommended.

Although synthetic cannabinoids have been linked to higher risk of fatality, there have been no reported cases of death associated with the use of JWH However, smoking in higher doses can be dangerous. Long-term use of JWH may create appalling effects and can even cause life-threatening hallucinations and seizures. Similarly, it can have a negative effect on the cardiovascular system, such as increased heart rate and blood pressure, which may pose a threat to the user.

Moreover, frequent use of JWH may lead to dependence or abuse. Withdrawal symptoms are likely to occur once the user decides to stop using the substance. Such symptoms include:. There were also constant muscle spasms, muscle cramps, and muscle pains.

Just like any kind of drug, taking JWH for a long time may easily lead to dependence. More of a blanket screening that tests for the presences of, but not limited to the following:. The list of compounds is growing, with more Spice alternatives added as they are discovered. The cost of testing is still fairly high. This makes it more specialized. Unless directly requested, public testing is not common. The Military does include K Spice in all drug testing.

This is important as its using these drugs does violate protocol. THC is a fat soluble compound that can remain in your system for up to and over 3 months after use. There is no indication that synthetic marijuana does not remain in your system for that long if not longer after use.

A couple of months later they wanted a chest X-ray. I got one and the results went back to them. Then they wanted a cd of the actual X-ray.

I sent it to them over a month ago. I have still not heard one word from Inspire Sleep. And remember this. It is also major surgery to have it removed.

This indicates aggression. If the goose then bends its neck out straight, this shows the aggression is increasing. If a goose is about to attack, it will pump its head up and down. Geese may hiss or honk as well if they are becoming aggressive. Leave before a goose begins to chase you.

If you notice warning signs of an attack, leave before the goose begins to chase you. If the goose sees you're backing away, it may decide you're not a threat. Back away slowly until you're a good distance from the goose and it's stopped making aggressive gestures.

Back away slowly if the goose becomes aggressive. In the event the goose starts chasing you, back away slowly. Stay faced towards the goose and use your peripheral vision to guide your movements. Make sure to avoid anything you may trip over, as this may give the goose reason to attack.

Remain calm. If you appear frightened or upset, a goose could take this as a sign of aggression. It's a good idea to maintain a calm, neutral demeanor when backing away from a goose. If you're struggling to remain calm, take a few deep breaths as you back away. Keep in mind that, while geese can be territorial, an actual physical attack is very rare. Recent Posts. Escaping detection by decoying geese should be your number one priority. You can also control the hunt better with fewer blinds. Communication is easier. And it's also easier to call the shots when the geese are coming straight into the decoys, which can result in higher-percentage shooting. Spread Out Decoys and Hunters As the season progresses, geese get wise to rows of layout blinds and masses of decoys.

By spreading out hunters always with safety foremost in mind and hiding them in clusters of decoys, you accomplish several things. First, birds conditioned to looking for rows of blinds will have a harder time spotting danger. Second, setting decoys in scattered family groups mimics a natural, relaxed flock and gives you a bigger footprint and more drawing power. And finally, flagging and calling locations are also dispersed, making you look and sound less like a group of hunters and more like an actual flock of geese.

Get Out of the Way Late-season geese are adept at spotting suspicious rows of bumps-telltale signs of hunters lying in wait. Setting up with your blinds facing downwind-and therefore directly in line with the birds' approach-only invites trouble.

To reduce the likelihood of being detected, place your blinds 10 yards to the side of the landing hole or parallel to the wind. Now the geese will see nothing but decoys in front of them, and your crossing shots will likely be at backpedaling birds. Bring High Incomers Down Few situations are more frustrating than high-flying geese coming straight over your spread and seeing your blinds, as often happens on days with little or no wind.

To prevent this from ruining your hunt, grab six decoys and walk 50 to 60 yards downwind or in the direction the geese are coming and place them in two groups on either side of your spread. While this will certainly position these decoys beyond gun range, the whole idea is to get approaching birds to lose altitude. When the next flock approaches, the geese will likely focus on these decoys and start dropping. Don't call until the birds commit, and then be prepared to call and flag aggressively to prevent them from short-stopping.

Once you pull the birds past the downwind decoys, call only as much as is needed to keep them on a string. Keep Frost Off Your Decoys Frost presents a real challenge for goose hunters on cold, clear mornings. Even fully flocked decoys can frost up quickly under such conditions, and when the sun rises they'll shine and flare geese. To reduce the chances of your decoys frosting up, brush up your blinds and organize your guns and gear first, then set out the decoys right before shooting time-as late as you can without missing the first flight.

The less time the decoys have to collect frost before sunup, the better. Find the "X" In the morning, Canada geese will typically return to the spot where they were feeding the previous afternoon. This is why scouting is crucial. When you find a feeding flock, wait until the birds fly back to roost before going into the field to pinpoint their feeding area. Check the ground for fresh droppings, and when you locate them, take a GPS reading or mark the spot so you can return to it the next morning in the dark.

Follow the Leader Every goose hunting party should have a recognized leader. The job should typically go to the most experienced hunter or caller. The leader watches the geese work and determines not only when to call and flag based on the birds' reactions but also when to shoot.

By directing the calling and shooting for the group, the leader helps ensure that other hunters stay concealed and that the hunt progresses smoothly and safely. Don't Forget to Flag Flagging goes hand in hand with calling and should be used primarily to gain the attention of passing geese.

Several hunters waving flags intermittently can help pull birds in by simulating a flock of geese landing among the decoys. When the geese turn toward your spread, however, only the lead caller should flag, and he or she should stop flagging when the birds fully commit and are on their final approach.

If the geese veer away, resume flagging and calling to regain their attention and turn them back toward the decoys. Hunt without Decoys While most Canada geese are taken over decoy spreads, pass-shooting and jump-shooting are also effective hunting methods for these birds.

Pass-shooters should scout to see where geese are entering and exiting a feeding field, then position themselves in cover beneath these flight lanes. Try to hide as close to a feeding area as possible to intercept low-flying birds. Sometimes a call can be used to entice geese especially singles to fly directly overhead. Jump-shooters should use cover such as thickets and fencerows and other topographical features to slip within range of feeding geese and shoot them when they flush.

Success with both of these techniques requires sound strategy, patience, and good concealment. Like all waterfowlers, pass- and jump-shooters have an ethical responsibility to not take shots at geese at marginal ranges. Get Low in Small Spreads Not all hunters can deploy dozens of full-body decoys that offer enough concealment to hide several layout blinds. If you're using a small spread of three to four dozen decoys, a good way to make layout blinds disappear is to dig them in with the landowner's permission.

This helps lower a blind's profile, making it much harder for geese to spot. It takes only a few minutes to dig a shallow "grave" to conceal a layout blind.

With mud or sand filled in around its edges and camouflaged with natural vegetation, you will be virtually invisible to incoming birds. Don't Limit Layout Blinds Layout blinds aren't just for field hunting. My poor baby kitty. Joined Jul 6, Messages 34 Purraise 1.

Im so sorry you lost your kitty. Its too late to do now, but the best thing to do it to put your pet in a thick contractor garbage bag and tie it shut before burying.

This helps contain their smell, so that animals catch smell them, which is why they dig them up. My parents have several dogs and cats who have passed over the years, and this is how they bury them. They live on a farm, so there are a lot of foxes and coyotees and nothing messes with the graves.

In your situation, I would lay down some plastic, tack down wire mesh, put more dirt, then rocks. Im not sure if it would help, but you may want to consider putting some activated charcoal down to help absorb any smell. It comes in cartons in the fish supply area and can be bought at walmart. Although you probably cant smell, animals have a very good sense of smell, and are digging because them smell him, and unfortunately probably want to eat.

Joined Jul 25, Messages 1 Purraise 1. My lovely cat died two weeks ago, and we naively! A couple of nights ago a fox dug him up and left him at the bottom of the garden. Needless to say, it was horrendous to see and deal with, as I had him for 18 years and loved him very much. So I've reburied him taking some new precautions - I buried him a good few feet deeper, and wrapped him in an old sheet.

I put two concrete slabs underground at different layers, then one on top. And for now while the fox is still about , I've put chicken wire held down by bricks over the site. And a pretty flowerpot on top! I hope this is enough. Apparently it's very normal for the fox to come back and dig up the site repeatedly. No sign of it yet, so I'm hoping that these precautions are enough. If anyone is reading this who hasn't buried their pet yet, I'd really recommend taking precautions, as it's such a horrible thing to have to deal with if it happens.
