Tummy tuck how many stitches
I could…but NOT the first week. You will absolutely need to take the time off. I had a few moments where I thought I was getting better and I was but then I had a set back of pain or exhaustion.
Do not over do it! I had lipo of my flanks in conjunction with my tummy tuck. It helped transition the area a lot more smoothly. My tummy tuck incision area hurt the least, my muscle repair hurt the second, but that lipo…I was way under prepared for the swelling, numbness and bruising.
I am going into week 4 at the time of this article and I am still slightly swollen on my lower back and still numb.
Prior to surgery, drains were my biggest fear. I did a lot of research on a drainless tummy tuck. To be honest, my fears were unfounded. I had one drain that came out on my right side and stayed clipped to my wrap. The drain had to be emptied during the day. My spouse took care of it the first few days and after that, I did it. I noted the drainage the last few days prior to my follow up appointment and as the fluid had slowed down, the Dr.
There really is no way to describe it. The doctor clipped the drain at the site, then pulled the tube out. I could feel the tube slide over my abdominal muscles, but it did not hurt.
There was a small hole where the drain site was that closed within a few days. About two weeks in you will also wonder if you will ever be able to walk upright again. Hint: You will. This stage of recovery, regardless of what type of surgery, is the most challenging mentally. It can be easy to overdo it physically, languish in unhealthy foods, and feel a bit lonely and isolated. Use this time to take gentle walks around your house and start to get back to your normal routine. Rest when you feel tired and listen to your body.
Give yourself time and space to heal — enduring this short period of time is worth it. Week two felt like 10 weeks laying around. You can do those things but do not be surprised if they suck more energy out of you than you realize. Enjoy the down time. I kinda miss watching Friends all day now that I am back to work.
To help alleviate this, you will wear a wrap for several weeks before your doctor will allow you to change to compression garments like Spanx. Many women also wear fajas, but I personally have not moved to heavy compression. I have followed instructions on the wrap given by my Dr. The entire reason I had a tummy tuck was to get rid of those! I have went through several types of garments and the ones I like the most is the wrap my doctor office sent me home with and boy short spanx.
I also wore compression socks a week after surgery and liked these ones the best. You should take this medication every 8 hours after surgery for the first two days, then as needed, and at night before you go to bed. The maximum dose is 4 Tablespoons in 24 Hours. You can stop it once your bowel habits return to normal.
Use until finished. Activity: You should refrain from high impact activity and limit your day to day activities to support your healing. Have someone help you to go to the bathroom and take a shower. For the first week you should stay at home as much as possible and only go out for emergencies.
Dressings: leave everything alone for 36 hours. After 36 hours, take off the garment, netting and gauze. Leave the steristrips small white tapes in place over your incision. After this you can take a shower. After the shower put on the garment again make sure the seams are facing the outside , directly over the steristrips.
You do not need to put gauze on your incisions. Do not start using the scar stick or tape yet, we will instruct you on this after your one-week appointment. Showering: After 36 hours, then pat dry.
Do not take tub baths or get into a Jacuzzi or pool. Diet: for the first few days, eat only soups and bland food that are easy on your stomach.
Start eating only in small quantities. Drain: empty the drain directly into the toilet. Look at how much is in the drain when it is not on suction and record the amount every time you drain it. The drain is not removed any earlier than 10 days after your surgery. Please make sure that the drain does not get kinked under your garment. It is better if the drain comes out from under the bottom of your garment OR if your garment also covers your thighs though a hole in the garment.
Try not to let the drain rest on your skin under the garment. Please be patient with all of this for a few months, and it will all go away. Depression and mood swings are common too. Remind yourself that everything will be better soon.
This is a very important appointment to keep. It is okay to shower for the next month. Do not take baths, get into Jacuzzis, swimming pools, the ocean or lakes. Do not do any heavy lifting, running, or upper body exercises for one month. It is important to exercise and eat right once you are healed so you do not gain weight. Wear brown tape on your incision. Change once every three or four days or if it looks wet.
You may notice some stitches in the incision, these will fall out by themselves within two weeks. Wear the compression garment as close to 23 hours a day as possible for the next month.
It is okay to remove it to shower. Call us when the drain is LESS than 25cc a day for two days in a row to have it removed. Continue the antibiotics until the drain is removed.
